India: India’s United Breweries (UBL) ranks 284th in the BS 1000 listing of top Indian companies

India’s United Breweries (UBL) ranks 284th in the BS 1000 listing of top Indian companies in terms of sales in 2004- 2005. The ranking includes listed manufacturing and service companies but excludes financial service firms, banks and non-traded companies and companies with negative earnings and those with negative net worth, according to the India Business Insight report of March 15.

Companies included are those that ended their year between 1 Apr 2004 and 30 Sep 2005, and whose balance sheets for the full year are available. UBL announced a 17.1-percent rise in net sales at Rs578.38 crore for 2004-2005.

Companies have also been ranked on the basis of operating profit, net profit, assets, net worth and market capitalisation. UBL ranks 299th in terms of operating profit (grew by 27.5 percent to Rs74.05 crore in 2004-2005), 933rd in terms of net profit (a net loss of Rs4.54 crore), 224th in terms of assets (grew by 9.3 percent to Rs780.75 crore), 290th in terms of net worth (grew by 829.5 percent to Rs219.91 crore) and 169th in terms of market capitalisation (Rs1,490.40 crore based on market price as on 16 Dec 2005). Its cash profit was Rs13.68 crore.
